Everything you need to grow, harvest, and eat your own live Spirulina superfood! The kit includes: Detailed instructions, 1 liter bottle of live Spirulina, high-temperature heater with thermostat, glass thermometer, timer for heater (to keep Spirulina cool at night), quiet air pump, 3′ of air hose, air bubbler/diffuser, 4 clips, harvest hose, 100 pH strips (to check the culture’s alkalinity), 50 micron harvest cloth, 1 bottle of iron juice good for 500L of culture, 2x 10-gallon packs of Starter mix, and 1.6 lbs. of Make-up mix (good for about 5 lbs. of algae harvest). If you pick up the kit at a workshop, it will include a 10-gallon tank. If you buy the kit online, you will have to provide your own tank, which can be up to 20 gallons in size (any bigger, and you’ll need to buy extra Starter Mix to fill the tank with culture). The cost is the same because shipping costs about as much as providing a tank.

This is the mix to use when creating new Spirulina culture. This bag is good for making approximately 40L (more than 10 gallons) of Spirulina medium. (You will also need iron juice to make the medium.) The nutrient powders have been pulverized for more uniform consistency; you may want to give it a shake when you use it, though.

1.6lbs, good for approximately 5 lbs of live spirulina harvest. This is the powder mix to add back to the culture when you harvest, to make up for the nutrients lost to the harvested Spirulina, thus its name.

1 bottle of iron juice, good for 500L of culture. This is the secret sauce, the stuff that helps provide iron to the Spirulina cells at a steady rate. This is the new, improved (pre-chelated, if that means anything to you) version of the iron juice, which does not require any green tea! One squeeze is enough iron for 5 liters of culture.

This is a 1′ square piece of fine, nylon fabric perfect for straining Spirulina out of a culture. Just siphon, pour, or pump the culture liquid through this cloth, gather the blue-green stuff into the center, give it a squeeze to get out the last bit of water, and your live, fresh Spirulina is ready to eat!

For those who don’t mind assembling their own growth set-up, here is a kit consisting only of the items that are more difficult for DIY-ers to obtain.
